Ballon D'Or award cancelled for 2020. Organisers of the Ballon D'Or award ceremony have announced that it will not be taking place for 2020. The prestigious award given to a footballer for their exceptional individual abilities was introduced in 1956 and has been presented every year since. This is due to the coronavirus pandemic leaving various leagues in conflicting situations, with La Liga and the Premier League finishing, but leagues such as the French League have been voided.
Just 24% of Japanese citizens want the Olympics to take place next year. In a survey carried out by Kyodo news agency, it has been revealed that just less than one-quarter of the Japanese population want the Tokyo Olympic games to take place next year. 36% of the population would support a further delay of the games, while 33.7% want the event to be cancelled. The competition was supposed to be held this year but has been pushed to 23 July 2021.
Ronaldo becomes first player to score 50 goals in the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A. Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first football player in history to score 50 goals in the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A following Juventus' 2-1 win over Lazio. The Portuguese star scored twice to edge Juve four points within securing the Serie A title ahead of second place Inter Milan. The 35-year-old has now scored 30 goals in 30 appearances this season.
